Turkey Shoot Games
The club often hosts Turkey Shoots during the winter season. Winning participants receive varying prizes. Historically shoots are held every two weeks on Sundays. The Sunday before Thanksgiving, two weeks prior to that, the Sunday before Christmas and two weeks prior to that.
As the weather warms up the club will be offering Turkey Shoots in the spring also.
Some of the contests available to play are as follows. Rules may be altered slightly, but need to be decided upon and given prior to each contest.
Follow the leader: The first shooter shoots anywhere on the field he/she chooses. Each shooter shoots one bird from the same spot. If a shooter misses, he/she gets a ”hickey,” after 3 hickies the shooter is out. If the first shooter misses, then the next shooter in line that has not missed starts the second round from any chosen spot. This continues until 1 or 2 shooters are left, depending on the number of people that started the contest.
Colorado Bush Wacker: 2 shooters stand directly behind the center of the trap house. The shooter on the left calls for a target and shoots. If he/she misses or a big piece is falling, the second shooter gets a chance to shoot it. If the second shooter hits the target or a piece the first shooter gets a “hickey” and is replaced in position with the second shooter (shooter 2 moves left and becomes shooter 1). After three “hickies” the shooter is out. Last shooter left wins.
Annie Oakley: All shooters (up to 15) are lined up in the order in which they signed up on the 25 yard line. The first shooter calls for a target. If the shooter breaks the target, the next shooter in lines becomes the leader. If the first shooter misses the target, then the second shooter in line must shoot the target. If the second shooter breaks the target then the first shooter gets a “hickey.” If the second shooter misses the target, then the third shooter in line has to shoot. If the third shooter breaks the target, then the first two shooters in line get s “hickey”. If all three shooters miss the target, then they all get a “hickey”. After three “hickies” the shooter is out of the contest. The last shooter left wins.
Quail Walker: A shooter will walk toward the trap house from the 25 yard line. At anytime during the walk a target will be thrown. If the shooter misses the target he/she receives a “hickey”. After three “hickies” the shooter is out of the contest. The last shooter left wins the contest.
Bushwacker: This game is very similar in nature to the Colorado Bushwacker. Differences are: shooters stand on the 25 yard line (rather than behind the trap house) and there are three shooters (not two). The shooter on the left calls for a bird and shoots, if he/she misses or a big piece is falling the second shooter get to shoot, if he/she misses or a big piece is falling, the third shooter gets to shoot. If the third shooter hits the target, the two previous shooters get a “hickey”. If the second shooter hits the target, the first shooter gets a “hickey”. Shooters move left as “hickies” are gained to replace that shooter. After three “hickies” the shooter is out of the contest. Last shooter left wins.
